Confirm five things in order: the domain is the destination you expected, the page is still a product page, the current title and option match the shared description, the photos belong to that option, and the source or converted link remains relevant. If one fails, stop and recover from the category or product name.
A working URL is not the same as a matching listing
Shared product links outlive messages, spreadsheet rows, and screenshots. During that time, a listing can change title, reuse an old product ID, switch the default option, lose images, become empty, or redirect to a broader page.
Judge the current page, not the confidence of the person who shared it. Their description may have been correct when they copied the link.
The five-match check
- Destination match. Read the hostname and page type. A product link should not unexpectedly end on login, a homepage, a generic search, an unrelated shortener, or an error page.
- Identity match. Compare the live title and category with the shared message or spreadsheet row. Ignore promotional adjectives; compare the actual product family and distinguishing details.
- Option match. Confirm color, size, version, material, included parts, and quantity. A correct product with the wrong selected option is still a mismatch.
- Image match. Check whether the main image, detail images, and any QC photos show the same variant. Look for changed color, hardware, pattern, or included pieces.
- Evidence match. Make sure the page answers the question that made the link useful: sizing, dimensions, source, price context, photos, or weight. A page can match the item yet remain too thin to save.
What source and converted links mean
Taobao, Weidian, or 1688
A marketplace URL may show the source listing and its current options. It can change independently from a copied spreadsheet row or agent-facing route.
Yupoo
A gallery can help with visual context, but it may not supply current price, availability, seller identity, or a direct transaction route.
Agent or converter link
A converted link changes how a service reads the source URL. It does not prove that the source, product, option, price, or seller has been verified.
Search or category page
A broad destination can still be useful when the exact listing is gone. Treat it as a recovery path, not the original product match.
How to handle common failures
| What you see | Likely problem | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Homepage or generic category | The product route was removed, expired, or redirected | Search the exact product family plus one distinguishing term |
| Same title, different images | The listing or default option may have changed | Compare option labels and do not reuse old QC conclusions |
| Images load but title is unrelated | The listing ID may have been repurposed or the share was wrong | Remove the row and recover from the original description |
| Empty or sold-out page | The source is no longer actionable | Use the category as a new starting point; do not guess a replacement |
| Product matches but details are thin | The route is relevant but not decision-ready | Keep only as a lead and list the missing evidence |
Recover without opening ten replacement tabs
- Preserve the useful description. Write the product family and the one or two details that made the original interesting.
- Return to the closest category. Use shoes, tops, bags, accessories, watches, or another clear parent before searching broadly.
- Search one stable phrase. Use category plus color, material, shape, or model family—whichever is visible and genuinely distinguishing.
- Compare new candidates from zero. Do not transfer photos, measurements, price assumptions, or seller claims from the dead link.
Stop when the route asks you to assume too much
Remove or pause the link when you have to assume the current option, borrow images from another page, infer a seller from a gallery, or carry old price and size claims into a changed listing. The cost of starting again is usually lower than the cost of building a comparison on the wrong item.
External categories open in a new tab. Re-check the current destination.
